The production of these kinds of helmets of Italic tradition decreased in quality because of the demands of equipping huge armies, especially during civil wars.The bad quality of these helmets is recorded by the sources describing how sometimes they were covered by wicker protections (viminea tegimenta), like those of Pompeius' soldiers during the siege of Dyrrachium in 48 BC, which were seriously damaged by the missiles of Caesar's slingers and archers. Other historians and writers have stated that the Roman army's need for large quantities of 'mass produced' equipment after the so-called ' Marian Reforms' and subsequent civil wars led to a decline in the quality of Roman equipment compared to the earlier Republican era: Roman equipment was not of a better quality than that used by the majority of Rome's adversaries. This does not mean that every Roman soldier had better equipment than the richer men among his opponents. The equipment gave the Romans a very distinct advantage over their barbarian enemies, especially so in the case of armour. Its regular practice during the Roman Republic and Roman Empire led to military excellence and victory. These standard patterns and uses were called the res militaris or disciplina. Roman military personal equipment was produced in large numbers to established patterns, and used in an established manner. The arms of this template would suit a gladiator quite well. It's characterized by a kettle-style helm a scale-style cuirass with a double-ended scarf on top of the cloak and a layered-plate gauntlet on the right hand with assymetrical shoulder guards. It shares its template with the Dalmatia and Savia sets. The Dacia Set is the 'Byzantine-y' armor. Probably the most 'gladiator-y' template. It's characterized by a 'tall' helmet style featuring vertical and straight cheek guards and a large, sloped neck guard on the back a segmented chest that buckles up the front with a striped animal pelt on the back and smaller, layered, rectangular shoulder guards with open-fingered gauntlets. The Gallaecia Set shares its template with the Baetica and Valencia sets. It's characterized by a solid breastplate with a spotted animal pelt on the top of the cloak, a conventional Roman-style helm, and large flat pauldrons with a short sleeve on the right arm and some tassles on the left. It's also the template for the Samnium and Valeria sets. The Campania Set is the 'Default' set for the Centurion. The first hero I've been able to collect all of the templates for: Centurion! I also try to identify which sets belong to which template, but I can't always 'find' a piece from every set in order to place it. So with that in mind, I've set out to try to collect all of the 'templates' for the heroes I play. That's why higher-tier armor looks the same as lower-tier armor, but (generally) spikier and sometimes with different helmet 'facial features.' Some of you may recall that a while back, the devs said in a live stream that each hero only has four 'templates' for their armor, and that all of the different armors are derived from one of those four templates.
